Financial advisor

Many people will be familiar with the term ‘Financial Advisor’ although they may not really be aware of just how many areas upon which a Financial Advisor can advise, or indeed of the enormous scope of knowledge a Financial Advisor must have to be able to do his / her job properly.

Take just pensions for starters.  Without advice from a Financial Advisor, would you really claim to understand the subject properly?

  • What will the State provide? – A Financial Advisor will know
  • What will your employer provide? - A Financial Advisor will know
  • What should you be paying yourself? - A Financial Advisor will know
  • What should you do if you are self-employed? - A Financial Advisor will know
  • What about overseas aspects, special cases, loans, charges, tax?  It’s a potential minefield – but - A Financial Advisor will know what to do

Can you manage without? Our advice would be that only very few people really do have the knowledge and expertise to be able to manage without a Financial Advisor.

So.... what else can a Financial Advisor do for you?  A Financial Advisor will help you understand and meet your financial objectives – starting by going through a thorough fact finding process to enable full understanding of your situation ‘now’.

  • A Financial Advisor will use what he / she has learned during this process to consider which are appropriate types of products relating to areas like investments, protection, mortgages and loans and as well as pensions and he / she will then research the market for those that will best meet your needs, even taking into account factors like your attitude to risk.
  • A Financial Advisor will consider your security – and will aim to keep you and your family safe now – and in future.
  • A Financial Advisor will strive to achieve a longstanding relationship with you, so that he / she can build on recommendations when regular reviews are carried out in years to come.
  • A Financial Advisor, if doing his / her job properly, may never become a friend on a personal level but having built a long term relationship with you, he / she may well, over time, become as important as the best of friends.

Think about it.  To become a successful Financial Advisor, the person must have many skills

  • A Financial Advisor must be able to recruit clients
  • A Financial Advisor must be able to manage the relationships he has with these clients and to build on these in future
  • A Financial Advisor must be sufficiently knowledgeable and ethical to be able to act legally and compliantly
  • A Financial Advisor must be highly organised
  • A Financial Advisor must be able to develop him / herself professionally on an ongoing basis so as to keep up to date with industry changes
  • A Financial Advisor must be able to identify the right opportunities for YOU

So.... if this person is prepared to share these skills with you, as long as you feel comfortable that they will put YOUR needs above all else, then we’d say ‘go for it’.

Can you honestly afford not to employ the services of a Financial Advisor?

The Financial Advisor. Possibly the most important professional you will ever consult.
