Society staff pile on pounds for Home-Start

MID-MORNING snackers at Leek United have helped to ‘pile on the pounds’ for a charity supporting young families in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
The in-house tuck shop is a popular daily destination for many of the staff working at the Society’s Customer Service Centre.
And the profits raised by the facility during 2019 provided some financial sustenance for Home-Start Staffordshire Moorlands* at the start of the new year.
A cheque for £1,570 was presented to officials from the organisation by Leek United Chief Executive, Andrew Healy and Head of Financial Planning and Analysis, Helen Wainwright at the Society’s Customer Service Centre in St Edward Street, Leek.
Andrew said: “Christmas and New Year can be a difficult and stressful time for many families, who may find themselves in need of the sort of help and support that Home-Start provides.
“We are delighted to be able to make this donation to the charity, and hope that it will go some way towards helping the vital work it does in our local community.”
Helen added: “Everyone at Leek United is familiar with the tuck shop – and it’s great to think that regularly giving in to temptation can sometimes pile on the pounds in a good way…”
Leek United’s cheque was received by Home-Start’s Senior Organiser Louise Walker and the charity’s Treasurer, Barry Machin.
Louise commented: “It is fabulous to know that we have so much support from an organisation such as Leek United, especially at a time when we are seeing more families requiring help than ever before.
“In the last 12 months alone, the number of Staffordshire Moorlands families with young children who are facing financial issues and hardship has more than doubled. This money will go directly towards the support and help our teams provide across the district.
“We can’t thank Leek United enough – and we certainly can’t believe that everyone looks so trim, in spite of the money that is clearly being spent at the Society’s tuck shop!”
