Arson: A call to Action

Time and date: 27 January 2015 4.30 PM to 27 January 2015 6.00 PM
Location: Committee Room 18
Organiser: APPG Insurance & Financial Service

With insurers paying out over £1bn in fire related claims each year, this session will look at the impact of these events in non-domestic buildings, and in particularly the consequences of deliberate fires.

The Fire Statistics Monitor cites that arson accounted for 68 900 fires for the 12 months to March 2013 (45% of all fires attended) – a figures that is decreasing, but not at the rate of accidental fires.

To this end, this session will look at how different stakeholders can work together to pool resources and intelligence with the aim of increasing the downward trend in deliberate fires. With strong collective leadership by the insurance industry, Government, emergency services and the CPS, we can drive down costs (which could flow through reduced premiums and or a reduced risk exposure) as well as demand on public services.
