This Chartered Connections event is being run exclusively for Chartered Financial Planners and advisers holding a level 6 qualification. These events offer an excellent opportunity to share best practice with fellow Chartered Financial Planners and other professionals.

For our third Chartered Connections event of the year, we are delighted to offer an update by Stronachs LLP on:

 

Legal Rights - Forced Heirship in the 21st Century

This Chartered Connections event will be taking place on Thursday 20th August  from 12:00-14:00  at Stronachs LLP, 34 Albyn Place, Aberdeen, AB10 1FW.  Lunch will be provided.

The first session will provide an  overview of the Legal Rights regime in Scotland, including an introduction to the topic, case studies and consideration of potential reforms in the area.

We will then move on to a review of the options open when it's too late to grant a Power of Attorney, including an introduction to Intervention Orders and Guardianship Orders and a case study showing how financial planners can assist the client.

After attending this session you will be able to:-

  • Identify clients whose family circumstances may mean that Legal Rights could pose a problem
  • Explain to these clients how Legal Rights may impact on their succession planning
  • Appreciate the reforms proposed in this area
  • Advise clients on the importance of putting in place Powers of Attorney
  • Explain the options open to families when capacity has already been lost
  • Identify the opportunities open to their firm for financial planning in this area

We will be hearing from Jaclyn Petrie, Kirsten Anderson and Karen Oliver from Stronachs LLP. 

Jaclyn Petrie is a Senior Associate in the Private Client team and specialises in tax and estate planning matters. Kirsten Anderson is a solicitor with Stronachs' Private Client team, advising on estate planning, trusts and estate administration.  Karen Oliver is an Associate in the Private Client team and advises on all aspects of estate and succession planning, from Wills, trusts and other tax planning measures to winding up estates.
