Dudley Building Society makes donations to its local hospital and care homes as it outlines local community initiatives for 2020

Dudley Building Society has today launched its ‘Giving Back’ community initiatives for 2020/21 with an immediate donation to local hospital, Russell’s Hall, of a thousand washbags and toiletries in response to the current crisis as well as donations to five local care homes.

The Society is focusing on four main areas in 2020/21.

  • Building Sustainability. The long term goal is to become fully carbon neutral and in 2020 the Society has set a target of reducing its carbon footprint by 20% in branches and its principal office.

  • Promoting Financial Awareness. In partnership with local businesses and institutions, Dudley is committing itself this year to creating materials and providing sessions for young people in the local area with the aim of educating and helping them foster a culture of prudent financial awareness and understanding of the value of saving and planning for their futures.

  • Employee Volunteering. Continuing the successful pilot scheme giving employees a day of paid leave to volunteer for local causes close to their hearts, Dudley has set a target of reaching 500 volunteering hours in 2020/21.

  • Financial Wellbeing & Fraud Awareness. The Society is launching dedicated campaigns for members that promote financial wellbeing and heighten awareness of fraud and what can be done to combat it. The Society is aiming to engage 50% of members this year.

Commercial Director, Sam Ward, said, “The ‘Giving Back’ initiatives are simply the practical expression of our wider responsibility to care for the communities we serve. Working closely with our members and the wider population in Dudley’s heartland is one of our core commitments and a major plank of our ongoing engagement strategy as a building society with its roots buried deep in the Black Country.

The 1000 wash bags donated to Russell’s Hall Hospital represent just one of the more immediate initiatives we have undertaken in the community. We have also donated personal care packages to five of our local care homes, which are designed for both care workers and residents to protect them against the spread of Covid19, along with items to keep residents occupied and boost morale, particularly as their loved ones are unable to visit during this challenging time.”
