Six affordable interior trends for stunning style on a budget

With many Brits looking to close on properties before the stamp duty holiday ends 30th June 2021, a lot of homeowners will be turning to DIY projects to turn their new home into their ideal space.

To help people across the UK achieve their ideal home on a budget, sofa and carpet specialist, ScS, has provided six expert tips for budget renovations.

1. Traditional prints and modern spaces

Depending on the size of your space, introducing traditional prints into a room can be done on a large scale, such as your wallpaper or furniture, or smaller scales such as accents and furnishings.

For those looking to cut back the cost but still wanting large surface areas rocking this trend, try using patterned vinyl stickers on walls, floors or even your fireplace or furniture.

Smaller ways to bring this trend into your home include incorporating patterned wall prints, lampshades and cushions around the room.

2. Curved sofas

2020 has seen a peak in curved sofas, and it’s clear to see why with the style combining a modern look with a comfy twist, sure to suit any home.

You can be showing off this stylish trend, for just £399 or under £10 a month free credit, with the Ailsa 3 seater sofa from ScS, available in four different colours, ideal for any space.

3. Dark kitchens

Dark colours are dominating kitchens in 2020, but you don’t have to fork out thousands to transform this space. Instead, why not do it yourself?

To give your cupboards a new lease of life, sand them down and use wood paint to achieve the colour you’re looking for. Don’t forget to use a primer and a top coat for the perfect finish and try changing up your handles to complete the look. Avoid emulsion or generic paints as these will be too thick and could become gloopy on the wood.

4. Grandmillennial style

A design that’s been a hot topic this year is the grandmillennial style. Combining classic looks with a contemporary edge has no limits and can be tailored to every colour palette and preference - and it can be done by making just one or two simple swaps.

Replacing your flooring with a traditional patterned carpet, like the Roger Fells Richmond design from ScS, gives you an immediate transformation you’ll love. Additional or smaller changes you can make include fringe accessories and velvet furnishings.

5. Contrasting doors

Crisp white walls and other light tones are complemented perfectly by dark woods, a look that can easily be achieved by incorporating dark doors. But while changing the doors in your home can sound like an expensive job, it doesn’t have to be. Don’t discard your current doors just to achieve a new colour.

Remove the doors in question and sand them down until they’re nice and smooth. Before painting the shade you’re after, apply a primer and always top with a hard wearing top coat to ensure they’re durable against marks and scrapes. If going for a black paint, don’t forget to apply on two or three layers to achieve the rich look you’re after.

6. Fun bathrooms

While many are turning to funky tiling and walls to achieve this trend, it can be an expensive route to choose. Instead, incorporate bright, patterned accessories including bath mats, shower curtains and mirrors to quirk up the space. Finalise the look with an indoor plant and wall prints for a bathroom you’ll be dying to show off.
